We received the Special Award in the Technology Development category at the "Cogeneration Grand Prize 2021" hosted by the General Incorporated Foundation Cogeneration Energy Advanced Utilization Center.

The award-winning product "Liquid Desiccant Air Handling Unit: LDAHU" is an air conditioning unit that simultaneously performs humidity control and temperature regulation while utilizing waste heat from cogeneration. In addition to high-temperature hot water and steam from cogeneration, cooling waste heat from the intercooler is generated, but much of it, being around 37°C, is often discarded at cooling towers. The LDAHU uses this waste heat as a heat source for regenerating the humidity control liquid in summer (for concentration adjustment) and as a heat source for humidification and heating in winter, thereby improving the efficiency of cogeneration throughout the year and making full use of the low-temperature waste heat from the intercooler. Raman spectrum measurements are possible under humidity conditions.

The stability testing guidelines state that stability tests, which determine the shelf life of formulations and storage conditions for pharmaceuticals under various environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and light, are necessary tests for drug approval applications. Therefore, using Raman spectroscopy, which allows for non-contact measurements and is used for identifying polymorphs similar to powder X-ray diffraction, we focused on one of the environmental factors, "humidity," and analyzed and evaluated the crystal transition from hydrate to anhydrous form of caffeine, a model formulation, under humidity conditions using Raman spectra. This demonstrated that Raman spectroscopy is effective for observing the crystal forms of active pharmaceutical ingredients under humid conditions.
